Excerpts from the Happiness Journal

I have been in my editing cave for a while now, combined with some family responsibilities and I have been a bad girl about blogging.

Today I decided to let you in to my world. I read somewhere that we are more apt to remember the sad, the bad and the ugly rather than the good. Rather that the bad stuff takes up more space in your brain than the good and we can get trapped in a cycle of remembering the unpleasant.

This doesn’t have to be.  We can choose to remember the good instead of bad. Or at least counter act the bad with good when we feel as if we’ve gone down that road. For me this has taken the form of a happiness journal. Everyday until the rest of the year I’ve vowed to right down one thing a day that made me joy or brought on feelings of happiness.

And as you will note, (this is day four) it hasn’t taken me long to find more than one thing that has made me happy.

So I leave you with today’s happiness log:

  1. I saw a bunny on the way to work, along Mcculloch rd.
  2. Got the news that S’s tumor has shrunk due to radiation and chemo treatments.
  3. After having Lunch with G I ended up having a conversation with an Brazilian Student and a Japanese scholar about Language. Then the Brazilian’s wife showed up with her blinged out I-phone case.

Happy Valentines Day!

I was going to do an ode to the hubby, but you know it got a little too mushy and I think he’d kill me. So I’m just going to say thank you to my writing loves. That is all those people who are good for my writing mojo (They are also people I consider friends)

In no particular order:

My original GA soul mate.
Nicki Salcedo
My Canadian bestie.
Sorry but KC likes to hide out so I’m putting her latest release in place of her photo:

KC Burn

My awesome editor!

Caro Carson

My Jodi!

Jodi Vaughn
and of course Damon
Damon Suede

These are but a few. I’ll have to do another love letter soon.

Classic Movie Night

To continue my what do I do for fun post:
I realized something the other day in a rare conversation with the elder offspring. Her education is sadly lacking. (She’s Honor Roll and Honor Society, bragging a little here don’t mind me) She and the little one hadn’t seen many of the movies or read many of the books that shaped our childhoods.
So in an effort to spend more time with the offspring and broaden their horizons, as the older one is now firmly entrenched in the teenage habit of sequestering herself in her room. The man and I have been choosing what we consider classic movies and sharing them with the kidlets. Here are some of the movies we’ve already covered.

  1. The Sound of Music
  2. Conan The Barbarian
  3. Red Sonja
  4. Footloose
  5. Goonies
  6. The Wizard of Oz
  7. Star Wars (the entire series)
  8. Snow White
  9. Beauty and the Beast
  10. Aladdin
  11. Cinderella
  12. Forest Gump
  13. Empire of the Sun
These are only the beginning of the list. I will have to update this list as I figure out what they’ve watched and what I want them to watch next.
